High-quality towels differ from simple goods in several important respects – and it is precisely these differences that show in daily use.

Materials – what are premium towels made from?

Egyptian Giza cotton

The top class among cottons. Giza cotton from the Nile delta has particularly long fibres (extra long-staple), which ensure a unique volume, high absorbency and a silky feel. Premium brands such as Abyss & Habidecor rely exclusively on this quality.

Organic cotton

Cotton from certified organic cultivation is an important choice for environmentally conscious buyers. The fibre structure is comparable with conventional cotton, but the ecological footprint is considerably better.

Terry structures

The typical loop structure of towels determines absorbency and volume. Velour terry has sheared loops and looks particularly smooth and refined. Classic terry with unsheared loops is more absorbent and fluffier. Many premium towels combine both structures – velour on the outside, classic terry inside.

Which size do I need?

A recommendation for the basic set per person:

• 2 to 3 Shower Towels for everyday use after showering
• 3 to 4 Hand Towels for hands and face in the bathroom
• 1 to 2 Bath Towels for special occasions or the comfort of a bath
• 2 to 3 guest towels for the guest area
• 2 wash mitts for skincare

In a two-person household, the requirement multiplies accordingly. Use our free fabric samples to test the feel before buying – this is especially worthwhile for larger orders.

Caring for your towels

Premium towels reveal their full softness and absorbency only after the first few washes – a good sign of high-quality craftsmanship. With the right care, that quality lasts for years:

• wash before first use, ideally at 60 °C
• wash regularly at 40 to 60 °C – higher temperatures ensure greater hygiene
• no fabric softener – it forms a film over the loops and considerably reduces absorbency
• detergent without optical brighteners for coloured towels
• tumble dry on a medium setting – this makes the loops especially fluffy
• alternatively, let them air dry, then briefly fluff them up in the tumble dryer at the end
• do not overload – towels need space to clean properly

Important: The most common mistake in towel care is the use of fabric softener. What sounds like added comfort actually harms the towel – the loops become clogged and the towel loses its absorbency. Consistently avoid it.
