What does 'allergy-friendly' mean with duvets?
Behind the term 'house-dust allergy' lies a reaction to the excretions of house-dust mites – not to the house dust itself. These tiny arachnids feel especially at home in a warm, humid climate. As we lose skin flakes and give off warmth at night, the duvet is an ideal habitat for mites.
The central prerequisite for every allergy-sufferer duvet is therefore: it must be regularly washable at at least 60 °C . Only from this temperature are mites reliably killed off. Fibre duvets meet this requirement reliably – down duvets can generally not be washed as frequently and are therefore not suitable as an allergy solution. Anyone looking for an allergy-sufferer duvet therefore opts for a fibre filling.
Synthetic fibre filling – the right choice for allergy sufferers
Fibre duvets are the classic and only reliable choice for allergy sufferers. The hollow-fibre filling offers mites hardly any surface to attack and can be washed as often as you like at 60 °C or higher, without the filling losing its properties. That is the decisive advantage over natural fillings: through regular washing, the fibre duvet stays permanently hygienic.
Modern fibre fillings are, moreover, long since no longer a compromise: they are temperature-balancing, moisture-regulating and offer a pleasant lying sensation that is in no way inferior to a high-quality natural filling. An additional advantage: fibre duvets are animal-free and therefore also a good choice for vegans.
Important: a fibre duvet is only actually suitable for allergy sufferers if it is also genuinely washed regularly. Anyone who never washes the duvet loses the allergy protection.

Care of allergy-sufferer duvets
The right care is especially important with allergy-sufferer duvets – it determines whether the duvet actually fulfils its allergy protection.

- use a delicate detergent without optical brighteners
- no fabric softener – it clogs the fibre and impairs breathability
- dry in the tumble dryer, ideally with a few tennis balls so that the filling does not clump
- shake out every 20 to 30 minutes during drying
- alternatively, the fibre duvet can air-dry – it dries quickly
Ideally use an additional cover as a protective layer, which can be washed more often than the duvet itself.

Which duvet is best for house-dust allergy sufferers?
For allergy sufferers, only duvets with a synthetic fibre filling are suitable. They can be washed at 60 °C or higher, which reliably kills off mites. Down duvets are not suitable as an allergy solution, as they cannot be washed regularly. Look for modern hollow-fibre fillings that can keep up with natural fillings in lying sensation and warmth performance.
Are down duvets suitable for allergy sufferers?
No. Down duvets cannot be washed often enough to ensure lasting allergy protection. Even down duvets with especially dense ticking are not a full allergy solution. Allergy sufferers therefore opt for duvets with a synthetic fibre filling – that is the only reliable choice with a house-dust allergy.
How often do I have to wash an allergy-sufferer duvet?
We recommend a wash at 60 °C every three to six months – that is the minimum recommendation for effective allergy protection. With a heavy allergy burden, monthly washing can also make sense. Important: a cover as an additional protective layer reduces the washing requirement of the duvet itself, but should for that reason be washed more often.
Which warmth level is right for me?
That depends on your personal warmth requirement and the bedroom temperature. For most sleepers, a medium duvet is suitable as a solution for the whole year. Anyone who sweats easily chooses a light duvet. Anyone who gets cold easily, a warm duvet. With very different seasons, a four-seasons duvet is also a good option.
What do I have to bear in mind when washing?
