Silk Duvets: the perfect duvet for summer

Our Silk Duvets are all made from what is known as Tussah wild silk. This Tussah silk is obtained from the Tussah moth – and only after it has left its cocoon is the cocoon further processed and dissolved and cleaned in hot salt water. The cleaning removes possible residues of the silk gum, which in rare cases can trigger allergies.
The Silk Duvet adapts to the ambient temperature, is particularly breathable and pleasantly light.
Properties and advantages of Silk Duvets
A Silk Duvet has many positive properties and is especially valued in summer at high temperatures.
Unlike other natural materials such as yak hair, a Silk Duvet has a lower heat retention and thus ensures that even at high temperatures you begin to perspire less, or more slowly.
Silk is, moreover, one of the most absorbent materials nature has given us. It can absorb up to 30 per cent of its own weight without feeling clammy. The absorbed moisture is released to the surroundings almost immediately, ensuring a consistently dry and pleasant sleeping climate.
Since silk closely resembles our skin, it is not only incredibly pleasant and kind to the skin, but at the same time very breathable. Its supple and cool feel makes the Silk Duvet a much-loved companion in summer. The natural material is also self-cleaning and odour-neutralising – what more could you want?
Washing and caring for a Silk Duvet
The Silk Duvet can in principle be washed at 40 degrees in the washing machine. In principle, because of course not all Silk Duvets are the same and, besides the silk, the cover also matters. So please always pay attention to the care label and follow those instructions first and foremost.
For washing, a delicate detergent or a special silk detergent should always be used. Please also avoid fabric softener – it coats the silk fibres and impairs their positive properties. Fabric softener can cause the silk to lose breathability and absorbency.
The Silk Duvet should be washed on the wool programme at a maximum spin speed of 800. To dry, you can spread the duvet out on a clothes airer and bring it back into shape by gently shaking and smoothing it.
Always avoid drying the Silk Duvet in the tumble dryer, in the sun or over a radiator. As soon as the Silk Duvet is thoroughly dry, you can put it back into its cover and use it again.

With its dimensions of 155x220 cm, this is somewhat larger and offers more room for cosy nights and perfect comfort.

Which is better: a Down Duvet or a wild silk duvet?
Whether a Down Duvet or a wild silk duvet is better cannot be answered across the board. The two natural materials cannot be compared directly with one another.
The Silk Duvet is a good alternative especially in summer and prevents sleep-disrupting heat build-up. Silk is considered particularly skin-friendly and health-promoting and can even help to soothe inflammation. For this reason, Silk Duvets are especially suitable for very sensitive people and those prone to atopic dermatitis.
Should you, however, have a rather higher warmth requirement and find it hard to do without the wonderfully soft feel of a Down Duvet , we would certainly advise you to buy a Down Duvet. Anyone seeking the best of both worlds combines both duvets: the Silk Duvet in summer, the Down Duvet in winter.
