Which bed linen size do I need?
Whilst flat and fitted sheets come in standard mattress sizes, covers for pillows and duvets have their own distinct dimensions.
Pillowcases for the German market are produced in the standard sizes of 80×80 cm or 40×80 cm. Duvet covers such as the BOSS Home "Loft" are available in sizes 135×200 cm, 155×220 cm or 200×200 cm and should be chosen to match your duvet size. To measure your duvet, it helps to remove the cover, lay the duvet flat and measure the long and short sides with a tape measure. Only lay the duvet on the bed to measure it if it is noticeably smaller than your mattress. If your duvet hangs over the sides of the mattress, it is better to spread it out on the floor instead.
Winter bed linen: What fabrics are used for bed linen?
Cotton: Cotton is a natural fabric known for its moisture-wicking properties, making it an ideal choice for those who feel cold at first but tend to perspire during sleep.
Cotton is offered as bed linen in three common fabrics:
Satin: Cotton satin is a soft, flowing fabric made from mercerised cotton yarns. Mercerisation is a finishing process in which the cotton fibre is treated with caustic soda, resulting in an extremely smooth fabric with a fine lustre. The smooth surface of this fabric is ideal for intricate prints and retains its shape when washed. Despite its initially cool feel, satin bed linen can be used throughout the year.
Percale: Percale is a densely woven fabric made from combed yarns and can be produced from cotton or polyester. Combed means that the fibres are combed until all strands lie parallel to one another. Percale is medium-weight, firm and smooth with no sheen. It does not distort when washed and, like satin, can be printed with very fine detail.
