Traumina Pillows
Traumina Pillows – Pillows from the Bedding Manufactory in Renchen
Traumina pillows are built on a principle many sleepers only discover after years with the wrong pillow: a good pillow should adapt to you – not the other way round. Since 1921, the Traumina bedding manufactory in Renchen (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) has been making pillows, neck support pillows and cushions that can be adjusted in height and firmness, are washable at up to 60 °C and are processed in Germany. At Interior Couture you will find the complete range of Traumina pillows: with fibre, down or merino wool filling, from the classic 40x80 cm pillow to the ergonomic neck support pillow.
You can reach us by phone on +49 (0) 221 630 606 12, or by email at info@waesche-kultur.de. We offer free shipping within Germany from €50 order value, and internationally from €200 – deliveries to Switzerland and other non-EU countries are invoiced free of VAT.
Which Traumina Pillow Suits Which Sleep Position?
The most important question when choosing a pillow is not the filling but your sleep position. Your head should rest so that the cervical spine forms a straight extension of the rest of the spine. This leads to clear recommendations:
- Stomach sleepers: flat, soft pillows such as the Traumina Swing extra light or the Classic Soft down pillow, which do not overextend the neck.
- Back sleepers: medium height and firmness, for example Swing light, Classic Medium or the Plume Bio 3-chamber pillow with its supportive core.
- Side sleepers: higher, firmer pillows that fill the gap between shoulder and head – such as Swing, Classic Firm or an Exclusive pillow with all three inner pillows.
- Combination sleepers and anyone unsure: the Traumina Exclusive pillows with a variable inner system, whose height you adjust yourself by removing individual inner pillows.
- If you suffer from neck tension: the Traumina Ergonom neck support pillows with a contoured soft-latex core.
The Traumina Principle: Pillows with a Variable Inner System
At the heart of many Traumina pillows is the variable inner system, which Traumina also calls the VIS pillow. Instead of one fixed filling, the pillow case holds several separate inner pillows or inserts. The Exclusive Fibre, Exclusive Merino and Exclusive Soft Down each contain three inner pillows, the Premium Selection three functional-fibre inserts and the Classic Fibre two inner pillows divided 1/3 and 2/3. Remove one or two inner pillows and the pillow becomes flatter and softer; with all inner pillows you get a higher position and gentle neck support. This means a Traumina pillow can be adapted to a new mattress, a topper or changed sleeping habits later on – without buying a new pillow.
The Fillings of Traumina Pillows
Traumina Fibre Pillows
Traumina fibre pillows are filled with hollow fibre, fibre balls, fibre fleece or soft polyester fibres and are washable at up to 60 °C. This makes them particularly suitable for allergy sufferers and anyone who wants to clean their pillow hygienically on a regular basis. The range includes the Exclusive Fibre with three inner pillows, the Classic Fibre with refillable fibre balls, the extra-soft “kuschel mich” with a 3 cm gusset, the Swing series in three heights and the Premium Selection with cooling cotton sateen for those who perspire easily around the head.
Traumina Down Pillows
Traumina down pillows come in three firmness levels: Classic Soft with 90% goose down, Classic Medium with 30% and Classic Firm with 20% down – the higher the share of feathers, the more supportive the pillow. The Exclusive Soft Down combines a down-filled outer case with three adjustable goose-feather inner pillows. The Plume Bio pillows are filled with German organic goose down and are GOTS certified; the Plume Bio 3-chamber pillow surrounds a supportive feather core with two soft down chambers.
Traumina Pillows with Merino Wool
Merino wool absorbs and releases moisture very well. The Traumina Exclusive Merino with three inner pillows of pure merino wool is therefore ideal for anyone who perspires around the head and neck and wants a dry sleeping feel. The Classic series with merino wool flakes is also available as a cushion, neck roll and neck crescent.
Traumina Ergonom Neck Support Pillows
The Traumina Ergonom neck support pillows combine an ergonomically contoured soft-latex core with two individually adjustable inserts. The core supports the cervical spine, the inserts control height and feel. The Ergonom is available with down, fibre or merino wool filling – each in 40x80 cm and with a washable case.
Traumina Pillow Sizes
Most Traumina pillows are available in the standard German sizes:
- 40x80 cm – the classic pillow format, available for almost all Traumina pillows
- 80x80 cm – the traditional large format for those who like plenty of pillow
- 40x60 cm and 50x70 cm – compact formats, e.g. for the Exclusive Fibre or “kuschel mich”
- 40x40 cm, neck roll 15x40 cm and crescent – as cushions and additional pillows
- Kids’ pillows – flat Junior pillows in 40x60 and 35x40 cm
Caring for Your Traumina Pillow
- Most Traumina pillows are washable at up to 60 °C and tumble-dryer safe – for pillows with an inner system, the case and inner pillows can be washed separately.
- After washing, dry down pillows completely in the tumble dryer with two or three tennis balls so the down becomes fluffy again.
- Have merino wool inner pillows cleaned professionally; the cotton case can be washed separately.
- Shake up daily and air regularly – this extends the life of any pillow.

Frequently Asked Questions about Traumina Pillows
Can Traumina pillows be washed?
Yes. Most Traumina pillows are washable at up to 60 °C and tumble-dryer safe. For pillows with a variable inner system, the case and inner pillows are washed separately. Pillows with merino wool inner pillows should be cleaned professionally.
What does the variable inner system (VIS) of Traumina pillows mean?
The pillow contains several separate inner pillows or inserts. By removing or adding them, you adjust the height and firmness yourself – to suit your sleep position, mattress and personal preference.
Which Traumina pillow is suitable for side sleepers?
Side sleepers need a higher, supportive pillow. Good choices are the Swing, the Classic Firm down pillow or an Exclusive pillow with all three inner pillows.
Are Traumina pillows suitable for allergy sufferers?
Traumina fibre pillows are washable at up to 60 °C and are therefore well suited to people with house-dust allergies. If you are allergic to feathers, choose a fibre pillow instead of a down pillow.
Where are Traumina pillows made?
Traumina is a bedding manufactory from Renchen in Baden-Württemberg, founded in 1921. Traumina products are processed in Germany.
Which sizes are available for Traumina pillows?
The standard size is 40x80 cm, plus 80x80 cm, 40x60 cm and 50x70 cm. Cushions come in 40x40 cm, plus a 15x40 cm neck roll and a crescent; kids’ pillows in 40x60 and 35x40 cm.
What is the difference between Classic Soft, Medium and Firm?
The difference lies in the ratio of down to feathers: Soft contains 90% down, Medium 30% and Firm 20%. More feathers mean more support, more down a softer, more cuddly pillow.
