Which size is the right one?

When choosing a table linen, the size plays a central role. A rough rule of thumb:

• Table length plus 40 to 60 cm: for a relaxed overhang in everyday use (20 to 30 cm per side)
• Table length plus 80 to 100 cm: for festive occasions with a generous overhang (40 to 50 cm per side)
• For round tables: diameter plus 40 to 60 cm for everyday use, plus 80 to 100 cm for special occasions

Caring for your tablecloth

• wash before first use, ideally at 60 °C
• wash regularly at 60 °C with a colour detergent without optical brighteners
• no fabric softener – it reduces sheen and absorbency
• treat stains as soon as possible, before they dry in
• tumble dry on a low setting or, better still, hang up slightly damp
• medium ironing temperature, ideally while slightly damp – this gives damask and satin their characteristic sheen
• for damask tablecloths: iron inside out, then the patterns become especially clearly visible
• store flat-folded or loosely rolled to avoid hard creases

Premium tablecloths age particularly beautifully. With every wash the fibres become softer, the fabric feels more refined, the colours retain their depth. A high-quality tablecloth from a German manufactory can easily last 20 to 30 years and more – which makes it a genuine heirloom.
